Choosing pharmacy school
When I applied to pharmacy school in 1994, California had 3 pharmacy schools. In 2007, California has 7 pharmacy schools. In less than 15 years, number of schools doubled in California. Wow. A funny trivia of pharmacy school application is that in 1990, there was 300 applicants to usc school of pharmacy and in 1994, there was 1200 applicants. At that time, that increase was viewed as students changing career focus from technology to health care due to huge technology lay offs and cut backs. What is the most important aspect in choosing pharmacy school? Is there a perception that a degree from certain pharmacy school marveled at a job interview for a pharmacist. United states government research have strong belief that shortage of pharmacist for next 30 years due to increase in population for elders. This implies that pharmacist would not have difficult finding a job. It would be safe to state that attended pharmacy school would not have huge impact on job interview. How can someone compare different pharmacy school educational values? In the past, California board of pharmacy had distinguished board exam and rank 3 individual pharmacy schools' passing rate. USC pharmacy school passing rate of naplex has been 99.9% or 100% since existence of school. National passing rate of naplex is fairly high so it would be safe to state that attended pharmacy school would not have huge impact of passing state board exam. However, as intelligent pre-pharmacy student, one should research pharmacy school carefully before making a selection prior to applying.
